AREAS OF ACTIVITY
How to ascertain which subsection of the law applies to your project?
The client is ultimately responsible for defining the exact sub-section that his project falls into. The Ministry of Works has prepared a flowchart to help ascertain whether your project is classed as SS3 – Asbestos removal or as SS4 – Maintenance in the proximity of asbestos.
From small repairs to floor tiles, pipe insulation or technical equipment in your office, factory or industrial site, Asteck SS4 is able to adapt our specialised processes to meet your specific needs.
SS4 – Maintenance and servicing regulations cater for the following types of work :
1. Working on asbestos bearing materials (drilling into asbestos, removing equipment with asbestos components, removing non-asbestos items attached to asbestos, etc…)
2. Working in the close proximity of asbestos bearing materials where there is a risk of toxic asbestos fiber emissions
3. Removal of asbestos materials while repairing, servicing or replacing non asbestos equipment (pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, ducts, motors, dampers, burners, etc…)
Specialised processes
Servicing and maintenance in hazardous asbestos environments requires specialised processes. Each and every project entails the following steps :
- Checking of the asbestos/ lead paint/ environmental surveys
- Identification of any other hazardous products
- Site risk analysis
- Integration of Asteck SS4 procedures to our client’s environment
- Protecting the environment
- Protecting our operators
- Removal and treatment of hazardous waste
Discretion, capability and professionalism – this is what makes Asteck SS4 stand out from the rest of the crowd.
Waste removal and disposal
Asbestos and lead waste are classed into two categories:
- Non-dangerous asbestos waste (non-friable) : ISDND
- Dangerous (friable) : ISDD
In all cases, asbestos waste is double bagged in polythene bags and sealed with adhesive tape. The polythene bags are then put into a 1m3 “Big-bag” before being taped close, marked and sealed with a unique numbered identification tag.
Asteck is certified to transport hazardous waste site. Once your waste has been delivered to the Hazardous Waste Site, an “B.S.D.A – Bordereau Suivi Déchets Amiante” will be issued.
