Our dedicated procedure
Every project and product type has a dedicated procedure and is subject to the following basic sequence of tasks:
- Analysis of all site risks
- Integration of Asteck SS4 procedures to our client’s environment
- Protecting the environment and isolating the site
- Install worker decontamination facilities
- Protecting the environment
- Protecting our operators during the works
- Removal and treatment of hazardous waste
Worker Medicals
Only individuals that have passed detailed medical examination are authorised to work in asbestos environments. This medical examination (lung capacity test, cardiovascular, chest x-rays, etc) is performed by an official works doctor every 2 years and allows the recipient to wear protective respiratory equipment in a hazardous work environment.
Personal Protective Equipment
Asteck SS4 equips each operator with a battery powered respirator (approved to EN147 TMP3). Protective clothing consists of one-piece disposable overalls (type 5/6) with integral hood, gloves and boots.
Each operator has undergone the necessary training to ensure correct use, operation and care for his respiratory equipment.
Work area
The working zone should be separated from its surrounding environment with a physical barrier. Public access to the work zone is prohibited and all non-décontaminables surfaces must be protected with polythene. Warning signs should state the type of work being undertaken.
Personnel decontamination - Shower
A works shower is located close to the area of work. This shower has a pre-decontamination compartment with an absolute filter vacuum cleaner where each worker vacuums his overalls. He then removes the overalls and places them into an asbestos waste bag.
After this stage, the operator enters the shower compartment and washes himself and decontaminates his mask. He changes into his works clothes and cleans his mask meticulously before putting his battery on charge.
Vacuum cleaners
All our vacuum cleaners are equipped with high efficiency Hepa filters. They are used primarily for fine cleaning of the work zone and for the decontamination of our asbestos operatives.
